EU AI Act Article 14
Definition
Article 14 of the EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) requires high-risk AI systems to be designed so humans can effectively oversee them - including the ability to intervene, interrupt the system or discard an output. Logs alone are not enough: oversight must be able to act before the effect.
The decisive word is "effective": oversight that only reads afterwards what happened cannot intervene. Translated technically, Article 14 for agent systems means: being able to hold critical actions, letting a named human decide, and making that decision provable.
Obligations for high-risk systems phase in from August 2026 - if you build agent workflows today, build the oversight capability in from the start instead of retrofitting it.
